Duplicate WordCamp Events Due to City Name Variations
Hi team,
I noticed that these two listings are actually the same event:
This seems to be caused by the older and newer spellings of the same city (Bangalore/Bengaluru).
Because of this duplication:
– The same WordCamp appears twice
– Attendees/contributors are being shown on both listings
– Contribution/activity history may become inaccurate
– Event stats and attendee counts may split incorrectly
It may help to:
– Detect and merge duplicate events based on official WordCamp IDs/source URLs
– Normalize city aliases/spellings
– Maintain a canonical event slug/listing
– Merge attendee/contributor mappings into the canonical event only
This would improve profile accuracy and prevent duplicate contribution records.
