WPFolks is running a 30-day Roadmap Month. Every day, requests from the public roadmap get picked up, built and shipped. Day 1 covered new features, quality-of-life improvements and a batch of bug fixes, most of them straight from roadmap requests.
New features
Passwordless login: email code and magic link
Signing in no longer needs a password. Two new options sit on the login page:
- Email me a sign-in code. Enter your email or username, and a 6-digit code arrives in the inbox on your account. Codes expire after 10 minutes and work once.
- Email me a sign-in link. Enter your email or username, and a one-time link arrives by email. Opening it shows a “Continue as” screen so you can confirm before signing in.
Both options keep every existing safeguard. Two-factor authentication still applies, trusted devices still work, and new-device alerts still go out. Password and Google login stay available.
Coming with the mobile app: QR code login, where a signed-in phone approves a login on a computer (similar to WhatsApp Web). It’s built and will switch on when the WPFolks app launches.
A fresh look for login and signup
Login, signup, forgot password, reset password and email verification now share a new design. On desktop, a brand panel carries the same globe and orbiting folks as the homepage. On mobile, the form stays front and centre on a soft brand gradient. Light and dark mode are both supported.
Global search in the navigation
A search button now sits in the header on every page. It opens a Spotlight-style panel with instant results across folks, community posts, plugins, themes, events, Folks TV, Academy sessions, snippets, jobs, ideas, resources, deals, businesses, the roadmap and the blog. Keyboard shortcuts work too: press / or Ctrl/Cmd + K to open it.
Find folks by skill
Folk search now matches skills, not just names. Search “WooCommerce”, “Gutenberg” or “React” to find folks who list that skill, in the header search and in the Folks directory. Each result shows the skill it matched on.
Multiple speakers on one talk
Talks can now have co-speakers. When submitting or editing a talk, answer “Does this talk have more than one speaker?” and pick up to 5 folks. Co-speakers get a notification, the talk shows on their profile and on the event page, and they can remove themselves at any time. (Requested by Nilesh on the roadmap.)
Counts on profile sections
Profiles now show quick counts next to:
- Badges received on WordPress.org
- Photos contributed to WordPress.org
- Posts published on the folk’s own blog
Fixes and improvements
- Roadmap items in moderation no longer 404. Opening your own pending roadmap item now shows the item with an “In moderation” notice, instead of “Page not found”.
- Streak notifications now open the Streaks page. Clicking a streak award in the notification panel goes straight to your streaks.
- Tooltip no longer clipped on profiles. The “Open to sponsorship” tooltip now stays fully on screen on desktop and mobile.
- Newsletter labels readable in dark mode. “Email address” and “First name” are now clearly visible on the Newsletter page.
- Roadmap filter buttons readable on hover in dark mode. “All requests” and “My requests” no longer disappear on hover.
- Dashboard notices readable in dark mode. The “submissions awaiting review” notice and similar warnings now use dark-mode colours.
- Section labels aligned on the homepage. Pills like “Folks TV” and “From the blog” are now properly sized and centred.
- Faster search. Search results are now cached for everyone and refresh the moment content changes.
Confirmed fixed
- Relative time on roadmap items. A report of new items showing “56 years ago” was checked against every screen. The fix was already live, and items now show the correct time, such as “just now”.
