Roadmap Month continues. Eight more items shipped today, and the theme running through most of them is the same: the platform knew things it wasn’t telling you.

Polls grew up

Two changes, both from folks who ran a poll and immediately wished they hadn’t.

Poll options are editable now. Spot a typo in an option ten seconds after posting and you can fix it, inside the same edit window that already applies to the post itself. Votes stay attached to the option they were cast on, not to its wording, so nothing is lost in the correction. Where folks have already voted, the editor says so plainly before anything changes — rewording an option does quietly redefine what somebody chose, and that shouldn’t happen silently.

Options can be reworded, not added or removed. That line exists so the edit stays a correction rather than a different poll.

Poll results show who voted. The count was never the interesting part. Avatars now sit under the results, and the full list opens on click.

Progress bars on badges that were missing them

The badges page draws a progress bar for any badge that can measure itself. Several couldn’t, so they sat there as bare targets with no sense of distance.

Folks Academy badges now show it: 3 of 5 sessions attended, for both the attendee ladder and the speaker one.

Sprout, Explorer and the rest of the WordPress journey ladder now show it too, measured in months rather than whole years — 2 years 4 months of 3 years. A year-granular bar would have read the same for twelve months at a stretch, which defeats the point of a bar.

Project Contributor and Sustained Contributor now count merged pull requests toward their thresholds.

Videos in community posts

Paste a YouTube or Vimeo link into a post and it renders as a proper video card that plays in place. Product demos, session recordings, walkthroughs — they now live in the feed instead of behind a link.

The card stays a thumbnail until clicked, so a feed full of videos doesn’t load a player for every one of them as you scroll.

Three things that were quietly broken

Pinned resources can be removed. The unpin button had been there all along, sitting at zero opacity behind a CSS rule that never matched it. It was in the page, it was clickable, and nobody could see it. Now it appears on hover, shows permanently on touch devices where hover doesn’t exist, and asks before removing.

Logged out and clicking upvote used to do one of three things depending on the page: a browser alert, a bounce to the WordPress login screen, or nothing at all. Now there’s one prompt, with Log in and Create account, and it returns you to whatever you were upvoting.

The submission success icon was rendering at 16 pixels. It was meant to be 64, but a site-wide rule for unsized icons was winning against it. It’s 72 now, which is what that page wanted in the first place.

Roadmap Month keeps going

Every item above came from the public roadmap at wpfolks.org/roadmap. Post what’s bothering you, upvote what’s already there.
