A look inside

Five screens you will open every week

The community feed in the WPFolks app

01

Feed

Follow people, not brands

Updates, questions and wins from the folks you follow, with photos, polls and threaded replies. No algorithm deciding what you see.

  • Rich compose with @mentions
  • Polls and image uploads
  • Bookmarks that sync to the website
The nearby folks radar on the WPFolks home screen

02

Nearby

See who is around you

A radar of WordPress folks near you, at a WordCamp or in your city, and a nudge when someone you follow turns up at the same event. Off until you switch it on, and never more precise than a neighbourhood.

  • Radius from 10 km to 250 km
  • Follow from the radar in one tap
  • Approximate location only, and optional

03

Events

Turn up knowing who else is there

WordCamps and meetups near you, with RSVP, check-in on arrival, and private meet notes on the folks you talked to. The part everyone forgets by the flight home.

  • RSVP and one-tap check-in
  • See which folks are attending
  • Private meet notes, per person
The monthly leaderboard in the WPFolks app

04

Leaderboard

Contribution that counts

A monthly race scored on what you ship and answer, with an impact score, streaks and badges that stay in sync with your profile on the website.

  • Impact score with a weekly delta
  • Daily streaks across app and website
  • Global and by-country boards

05

Discover

The whole directory, filterable

Folks, plugins, themes, businesses, jobs, deals, ideas, resources and speakers, each shown with the people behind them rather than as an anonymous listing.

  • Filter by skill, badge and country
  • Search with recent history
  • Nearby folks when you allow location

Only in the app

Six things the website cannot do

Everything on wpfolks.org is in the app. These are the things a phone makes possible that a browser tab never will.

Push notifications

Replies, mentions, messages and event reminders, each one switchable on its own.

Face ID and fingerprint

Sign in once with Apple, Google or a magic link, then unlock with biometrics.

Log in to the website by camera

Scan the QR code on wpfolks.org and you are signed in on that computer. No password on a borrowed keyboard.

Nearby folks

A nudge when someone you follow is at the same WordCamp. Optional, and always approximate.

Event check-in

Check in on arrival and see who else has. Meet notes stay private to you.

Works offline

The home screen and your last feed stay readable with no signal, and sync when you are back.

And the rest

Everything else that came along

Daily games

Three WordPress trivia questions a day, plus Higher or Lower on plugin installs. Monthly games board included.

Folks TV

WordCamp talks and tutorials, watchable without leaving the app.

The Photo Directory

Browse, filter and download CC0 photos straight to your camera roll.

Your profile, synced

Link WordPress.org and your plugins, themes and core credits appear automatically.

Bookmarks

Save any post, plugin or photo. The same list on the website.

Streaks

Show up daily, keep the flame. Break it on one surface and you break it on both.

Invite folks

Your invite link, and the tree of everyone who joined through it.

Light and dark

Follows the system, or pick one. Same choice as the website.

Privacy

As little of your data as possible, and none of it for advertising

What it never does

  • No adverts, anywhere in the app.
  • No in-app purchases and no subscription.
  • No tracking across other apps or websites.
  • No third-party analytics SDK.
  • No selling or sharing your data with advertisers.

What you control

  • Location is off until you turn it on, and stays approximate.
  • Every notification type has its own switch.
  • Your profile can be hidden from the public directory.
  • Message requests keep strangers out of your inbox.
  • You can delete your account from inside the app, permanently.

Posts are checked by automated moderation before they go live, and every post and message can be reported. The full detail is in the privacy policy and the terms.

FAQ

Questions folks ask

Do I need a new account?

No. The same account works on wpfolks.org and in the app, and everything you do in one shows up in the other. Never signed up? It takes about thirty seconds in the app.

When is the Android version out?

It is out now, on Google Play.

Does it work on an iPad?

It runs on an iPad at iPhone size. A proper tablet layout is not in this version.

Do I have to share my location?

No. Location is only used by Nearby folks and event alerts, both optional, and the app asks before it touches it. Everything else works without it, and you can revoke it later without losing anything.

Is it really free?

Yes. No ads, no in-app purchases, no paid tier and no trial that ends. WPFolks is run by the community, and the app is part of that rather than a product on top of it.

Something is broken. Where do I say so?

The support page is the fastest route, and reports that come through it reach a person rather than a queue.
