Why streaks
If you’ve spent time around the WordPress community, you know the same names tend to show up everywhere. The folks who answer questions in the same forum week after week. The ones who keep filing roadmap tickets. The ones who show up at every meetup. That kind of consistency is its own form of contribution, and it deserves to be visible.
The Folks Score on WPFolks already tracks lifetime contribution. Submissions, comments, votes, plugins published on wp.org. All forward-only, all permanent. But score doesn’t say anything about WHEN you contributed. A folk who shipped a flurry of work last March and then went quiet looks identical to one who’s been steady for a year.
Streaks fill that gap. They count consecutive periods you stayed active.
What they reward
There are 11 streak families, broken into three cadences.
Daily. Open WPFolks. Take an action. Comment on someone else’s work. Three separate counters, three separate streaks. Login is the lowest bar. Activity counts any score-earning action. Commenter is specifically about commenting on another folk’s work.
Weekly. The umbrella “Active Weeks” streak rewards staying active in any way, week after week. Five specialty tracks layer on top, recognising HOW you show up:
- Builder: submitting plugins, themes, snippets, videos, or resources
- Storyteller: posting in the community feed
- Helper: leaving comments on other folks’ work
- Voter: upvoting work you find valuable
- All-Around Folk: doing a bit of everything
Monthly. The feature streaks. Roadmap participation (weekly), referrals, wp.org plugin or theme publishing, and Folks Academy attendance.
Each family has its own ladder. Earning a tier awards a badge AND 5 points to your Folks Score. With 76 streak badges total, that’s up to 380 points from streaks alone.

The safety net
Life happens. So:
- Weekly streak. Be active any 4 weeks in the current calendar quarter, and you earn 1 free pass. If you later skip exactly one week, the pass covers it automatically and your streak keeps going.
- Daily login streak. Log in on any 7 days in the current fortnight, and you earn the same kind of pass for the daily-login track.
Two things worth saying clearly:
- The pass is earned, not handed out. If you’re not active enough to cross the threshold, you don’t have one when you need it. The system rewards consistency, not vacation tokens.
- The pass covers one missed period. Two missed weeks in a row, or a missed week with no pass available, and the streak breaks.
The safety-net panel on the streaks dashboard shows live progress: “3 of 4 active weeks. 1 more to earn your free pass.” So you always know where you stand. The pill turns amber while you’re earning, green when the pass is ready, grey after it has fired.
The other streak families (Activity, Commenter, Roadmap, Referral, wp.org publisher, Academy) have no safety net. That’s intentional. The point of those tracks is rewarding genuine consistency on a specific kind of engagement, and a cushion would dilute that.
Forward-only
A few mechanics worth saying out loud:
- Streaks count forward from today. They do not backfill from your historical contributions on WPFolks.
- Once you earn a streak badge, it is yours permanently. Even if you break the underlying streak later, the badge stays on your profile and the points stay on your score.
- If your activity didn’t get recorded due to a system failure on my end, the streak is lost. There’s a manual recovery path I can run for support cases, but no automatic time-travel.
What you’ll see on your profile
For now, streaks live in two places:
- Your streaks dashboard. Full breakdown of every counter, the safety-net panel, the earned and unearned badges in the achievement vault. Find it at /dashboard/streaks/ (also in the user menu and the dashboard sidebar).
- Your weekly and daily streak tiles on the main dashboard, showing your current run and your best ever.
Badges earned through streaks count toward your Folks Score and Impact rank just like every other badge.
In beta
I’m launching this in beta on purpose. There’s a small group of folks who have streak tracking enabled while I watch the system run end-to-end. Once it has been quiet for a few weeks, I’ll open it up to every WPFolks account.
You’ll spot the beta status anywhere streaks appear right now. The user menu, the dashboard sidebar, and the streak tiles all carry a small “(Beta)” marker. The marker drops when the rollout is complete.
